机构简介:

The Geophysical Institute is part of the Department of Physics and comprises two chairs:

Applied Geophysics (Professor Dr. Thomas Bohlen)

General Geophysics (Professor Dr. Friedemann Wenzel)

The Institute was founded in 1964 by Professor Stephan Mü ller. In 1970, he was succeeded by Professor Karl Fuchs, who retired in 1997. His successor is Professor Friedemann Wenzel, who was then appointed to the University of Karlsruhe in 1994. In 1986, a second chair was established at the Institute, to which Professor Peter Hubral was appointed. In 2009, he was succeeded by Professor Thomas Bohlen.

The Institute is organized into three research areas:

We focus on the theoretical challenges of seismology, computer-intensive modeling, and inversions of geophysical observations, as well as on field seismology.

  Objectives:

Development and improvement of exploration methods for hydrocarbons and other underground resources

Development of seismology-supported reservoir management methods

Extending knowledge on the formation, dynamics, and structure of the solid Earth

Quantification, forecasting, and early warning of natural disasters in a geological/geophysical context

We offer bachelor and master programs in geophysics.
